Fabricated Motion

January - April 2025

As part of a design exhibition class, Megan was led by her professor to choose a 15-week-long project that had the ultimate goal of being exhibited in Oakland University’s Art Gallery. She decided that she wanted to make a quilt, which is something she had never done before. Inspired by Susan Kare and traditional quiltmakers, she wanted to bring digital and traditional art together and showcase a frame-by-frame animation showing growth, regression, and rebirth. Alongside her quilt is a vintage iMac G3, which displays the animation to give viewers context. Each square was pieced together by sewing machine, and the layers were joined by hand ties using cotton embroidery floss. Then, the quilt was bound together using both machine and hand sewing.

This piece was displayed in the Oakland University Art Gallery from April 10th - May 11th 2025.
