Michigan Needs High-Speed Rail Campaign
For Megan’s capstone project, she got to design for a non-profit of her choosing. Passionate about public transportation in the United States, she chose the High-Speed Rail Alliance based in Chicago. The non-profit is focused on building high-speed rail throughout the entire country and has a state-by-state plan on how to accomplish this. Megan has traveled to Italy and Japan, where she had access to great public rail in other countries, so she wanted to focus her capstone on the glaring issue of little reliable public transportation in the United States. For ease, she chose to focus on the state of Michigan and four cities, such as Detroit, Grand Rapids, Petoskey, and Marquette.
Regarding her campaign, she was inspired by the playfulness and whimsy of train advertisements in Japan. She wanted the materials for the campaign to be welcoming to the general public and to make the idea of public transportation fun. She designed a series of posters, one for each season in Michigan. She also designed train tickets, postcards, destination stamps, stickers, and a tote bag.
